But during the late N64 and GC eras I did have a current TV console. I did play plenty of DS games though, but that’s a handheld. The Wii really is just as good or better, but… I don’t know, I like older games a lot, and there were so many I missed! Now I have a 360 too, but I play that infrequently as well. And even then, I haven’t played the Wii anywhere remotely near as much as I did the Gamecube. It’s also kind of the end of an era that for me started in about ’99 - after the GC I started playing a lot more classic games than modern ones, and I didn’t end up getting a Wii until 2010. I liked the Gamecube a lot, and it’s definitely my favorite 6th gen console. The Gamecube is the only TV console that I bought within the first weeks of its release, and it was the only 6th gen console I owned between when I got it in November 2001 and mid 2007. Regular updates of improved old reviews and lists should resume shortly. And yes, that I wanted to finally finish this, after four-plus months of on and off work, is why I haven’t updated the site much for the past week. I love the Gamecube, and going back to it to play the several dozen games I owned but hadn’t tried yet was great fun! It’d been a while since I’d played a lot of Gamecube, but hopefully I don’t let it go for so long again. I guess I’ve gotten more verbose than I was five years ago when I started on the PS1 and 32X lists… well, whether good or bad, that’s how it is. It’s my longest game opinion summaries/short reviews article yet, and yeah, it’s pretty long. I am no opposed to spending money, perhaps up to $400, but I'm not interested in going off the deep end and start collecting actual carts. This is a new list.

Appreciate any feedback into how to get a good set up going on! It seems like there are so many ways top play NEO GEO games, but it is very costly to get the true experience on a CRT. Is there a way to get a cheaper MVS system and are those multi carts good? What about the consolized MVS route with one of those muti 161 in 1 carts? There is the Omega, but it is $530 and out of stock. Can I "find" those versions and play them on a homebew system? Does it use the same emulation as the original Wii virtual console?

I also have tried Metal slug 1, X and 3 on PS4 using the ACA NEO GEO series, and while they are decent, I find the visuals lacking, not a nice upscale job.įrom what I gather I could homebrew my Wii and run NEO GEO games off that? I have read that the virtual console had very nice versions of NEO GEO games, but unfortunately it's closed now. I have several compilations and ports on PS1/PS2 and Saturn, but every game seems to have some issue compared to the original (480i resolution, input lag, cut frames animation, etc.)

I have played many of the games through the years on many different systems, but am looking for the best way to play in 240p on a CRT. I am currently playing through the Metal Slug games, and rediscovering my love for NEO GEO.
